With this new tasting experience, we’re shining a spotlight on the often-overlooked world of Greek honey, showcasing its exceptional quality alongside a selection of artisanal cheeses that, as with all of our items have PDO or PGI certification (Protected Designation of Origin & Protected Geographical Indication). Through this tasting experience, we invite our guests to indulge in the natural sweetness of Greek honey and the savory richness of local cheeses, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the culinary wonders of Greece.
After all, in this day and age pure, raw, unfiltered good quality honey is hard to come by even in Greece. Greek honey is highly regarded for its quality and is a key component of the Mediterranean diet. Despite its international recognition, high production costs have hindered its export potential, leading to relatively high prices. Greece plays a significant role in European beekeeping, with professional beekeepers managing a substantial portion of the EU’s hives. However, Europe remains only partially self-sufficient in honey production. Greek honey contributes 1% to global production and ranks fourth in Europe, but recent data indicates a decline in the number of beekeeping farms alongside a slight increase in hive numbers, reflecting ongoing changes in the industry.
