FOKIANO

Type: Rosé, Dry

Category: PGI Cyclades

Variety: 100% Fokiano

Producer: Ousyra Winery

Region: Syros

Where does it come from?

An impressive rose wine from the nearly extinct variety Fokiano. The qualifying vineyards were found in Naxos. They are transported to Syros, and the winemaking takes place at the winery. Classic rose vinification.

A shy nose that gradually unfolds its temperament. Aromas of quince, lotus, bergamot, peach, banana, and subtle hints of butterscotch create an elegant bouquet. In the mouth, it has a medium body, balanced acidity, and a slightly oily sensation. Delightful notes of grapefruit, peach, apricot, banana, bitter orange, morello cherry, and butterscotch. A spicy finish that will delight you.

The variety...

Fokiano is a red grape variety primarily planted in mainland Greece and the Aegean islands, most notably Ikaria.

This ancient grape is thought to be the source of the famous Pramnian wine mentioned by Homer.

The winery...

The Ousyra Winery is a family run winery on the Greek island of Syros, creating terroir-driven wines from rare indigenous Cycladic varieties.

The special name of the winery means happiness and reflects the happiness of the couple, behind the winery, who met and fell in love at Syros island.
