In 2016, Cinque Wine & Deli took part in the first Athens Street Food Festival at the old OSY depot in Gazi. Our contribution brought wine by the glass into a setting devoted to food from the streets of different parts of the world.

It was a change of surroundings from the wine bar: an open festival atmosphere, people moving between flavours and an opportunity to meet guests who might be discovering Cinque for the first time.

Wine alongside street food

The idea was simple: a glass of wine can accompany an informal meal as naturally as a seated dinner. Good service and attention to the wine matter wherever the table happens to be.

At the festival, visitors could make wine part of their own route through the food on offer. For our team, that meant keeping the introduction clear, approachable and suited to the occasion.

Meeting people beyond the bar

Taking part offered a different way to share our interest in Greek wine. A short exchange beside a festival stand could be the beginning of a longer conversation about a variety, a producer or a future tasting.

We valued the chance to bring the spirit of Cinque into a public celebration of food: curiosity about flavour and pleasure in welcoming people.

A memory from the first edition

The original photograph preserves our team’s participation in that first edition. The festival’s own tenth-anniversary account traces its beginnings to 2016 and the old OSY depot.

This page belongs to the 2016 event archive. We remember it as an early opportunity to share wine outside the familiar setting of the bar, among the flavours and conversations of the city.
