Best Wine Bar Athens
#CinqueWineWalkers – Walking the Historic Center with a Winemaker
Following the reopening period after quarantine, Cinque Wine & Deli once again became a meeting point for wine lovers — this time for a truly meaningful evening in the heart of Athens.
What began as a spontaneous meeting between renowned Greek winemaker George Skouras, President of the Greek Wine Producers Association, and wine enthusiast S. Georgiadis evolved into an intimate gathering at Cinque Wine & Deli. Twelve wine lovers crossed our threshold not simply for a tasting, but for a shared experience.
That evening marked the first official tasting, immediately after bottling, of the new sweet wine from Skouras Estate, named “Titanas.” The presentation of the Mavrostyfo grape variety from Argos brought an unexpected emotional dimension to the event. During his speech, George Skouras made a special reference to Nikitas Prassas, sommelier and oenologist of Cinque Wine & Deli.
In 2014, as a young oenologist, Nikitas had participated in the batonnage process of this very wine at Skouras Estate, working under the guidance of the estate’s winemaking team. Years later, the same wine was being presented at Cinque, closing a circle that connected past, present and shared evolution. A video from that evening captures this moment and the personal reference that highlighted the depth behind the tasting.
The wine was paired with a dessert created exclusively for the event. A cheesecake designed to complement the wine’s acidity, structure and sweetness featured a handmade almond and butter biscuit base, cream of anthotyro and yogurt, and sour cherries with Mavrostyfo jelly. The balance between wine and dessert was intentional and precise.
Each guest received their dessert in an individual jar personalized with their name. A commemorative gift accompanied the experience, including a badge from the event and a booklet with information about the region, the wine, the winery and the dessert recipe.
This was not simply a wine presentation. It was a reunion of people, stories and shared journeys. A leading Greek producer, a wine carrying years of craftsmanship, a sommelier who had once worked on it, and guests eager to explore beyond the surface all met in one small space in the historic center of Athens.
Moments like these shaped the identity of Cinque Wine & Deli and explain why it has often been described as one of the best wine bars in Athens. Not because of luxury, but because of authenticity. Because behind every bottle there is a story, and sometimes that story returns to where it belongs.
Cinque — just waiting for you.
