The Cinque Wine & Deli Story
It was in 2004 when the idea of Cinque Wine Bar was born.
During a business trip to Friuli, in Northern Italy, we fell in love with wine. It was more than a tasting. It was a revelation. A moment that awakened all five senses in the most profound way.
The aromas, the texture, the land, the emotion.
Carried away by that life-changing experience, we chose the name CINQUE — “five” in Italian — as a tribute to that moment and to the five senses that wine had awakened within us.
“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.”
That belief has stayed with us ever since.
From 7m² to a Family Journey
Almost a decade later, in 2012, the first Cinque Wine Bar opened its doors in our hometown of Lamia, in Central Greece.
It was just 7 square meters.
Small in size, but big in passion.
At the same time, our son Nikitas, after graduating from the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, moved to Athens to study oenology at the University of West Attica. Wine was no longer just a passion — it was becoming a life path.
In 2015, moving to Athens became a family project.
We found a beautiful space in Psyrri, in the historic center of the capital. Inspired by the heritage, the culture and the contemporary urban energy of the neighborhood, we made a decisive choice:
From that moment on, Cinque would focus exclusively on Greek wines.
The name remained the same. Friuli would always be part of our heart. But our mission had become clear — to showcase the richness and diversity of Greek bottled wine.
Growth with Soul
In 2017, our passion and restless spirit led to the creation of a second Cinque — a Wine & Deli Bar on Voreou Street, again in the center of Athens.
Cozy. Open-hearted. Home-feel.
A place where winelovers from all over the world could gather around a table and share stories.
In 2018, Mykonos embraced our first pop-up, Cinque Island. It was a summer filled with unforgettable moments and friendships that remain with us to this day.
In 2021, we opened another pop-up in Maroussi, a beautiful northern suburb of Athens.
In 2024, we expanded through franchising, welcoming a new Cinque in Koukaki.
And soon after, Cinque arrived in Glyfada, bringing our philosophy of curated Greek wine and heartfelt hospitality to the Athenian Riviera — connecting the city center with the coastal lifestyle of Athens.
Still Dreaming
Nineteen years after that first glass in Friuli, with multiple Cinque locations and pop-ups behind us, we continue to dream and create.
Today, we are working on introducing Cinque-branded Greek wines, crafted from native grape varieties grown in selected local vineyards — wines that will be available across all our wine bars.
