In 2019, Cinque Wine Bar received Silver in the Wine Culture category of the Tourism Awards. The official winners’ table records the distinction under the Travel Experience section.
The ceremony took place on 9 April 2019 at the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Centre in Athens. Nikitas Prassas, oenologist and sommelier, received the award for Cinque, as recorded in our original article and photographs.
Recognition for wine culture
The official category name, Wine Culture, reflects the place of wine within a broader visitor experience. For us, the distinction was an opportunity to celebrate the work of introducing guests to Greece through its wines.
That work starts with a welcome and continues through questions: where a wine comes from, who makes it and how its variety and place help shape its character.
The experience around the glass
Our original account highlighted guided tastings, indigenous varieties and an approachable style of hospitality. The aim was to make Greek wine understandable and enjoyable for both first-time visitors and returning guests.
A tasting could open a conversation about a region or a producer. It could also help someone discover a new preference and feel more comfortable asking about a wine they had never tried.
A milestone in our journey
The 2019 Silver award remains a specific, documented milestone in Cinque’s history. It honours that year’s participation and gives us a lasting memory of the work and shared enthusiasm behind it.
The photographs preserve the moment of the presentation and the people who represented Cinque. Behind that moment was the everyday work of preparing tastings and welcoming guests.
A thank-you that remains
We remember the award with gratitude to the guests who tasted with us, asked questions and shared their experiences, and to the producers whose wines made those conversations possible.
